The Outfit

I paired my Hipster Shawl with the Roadtrip Flutter-Sleeve Tee from Anthropologie in Maize and these super comfortable jeans from Target.

The Shawl

The Hipster Shawl caught my attention the moment I saw it – it was cool. It was something that I could see throwing on with a t-shirt and jeans (my uniform) to tie the outfit together. When I squished Magpie Swanky DK at the Black Mountain Yarn Shop in Asheville, I knew it was a match made in yarn heaven!

Magpie Swanky DK is a beautiful blend of 80% merino wool with 10% nylon and 10% cashmere. It is soft and squishy with great stitch definition. It was a joy to knit with.

Then there is the color. Woodsmoke is a beautiful combination of steel grey and rust brown that works together in the best possible way. The incredible thing about Woodsmoke is that it matches everything. In addition to the yellow Anthropologie t-shirt worn in the photos, I’ve paired it with both teal and hot pink t-shirts. This past week I paired it with a maroon sweater and black jeans to wear at a work event in Chicago.

To fringe or not to fringe

The original Hipster Shawl has short fringe on the bottom of the crescent. I intended to add the fringe to my shawl, but that changed when I tried on the shawl post-blocking. Much to my surprise, I loved it without the fringe! I think the yarn over pattern provides a good amount of movement for the shawl so it works without the fringe.

Overall, I LOVE this shawl! I’ve been wearing it constantly in Florida when there is even a hint of cooler weather.
